I’m always preoccupied and distracted, looking at things. Seeing, staring, thinking, daydreaming. Painting helps me understand the world around me and helps me understand myself.

I like the dualities that happen…All at once, painting is about the formal/practical/technical challenges and ethereal/soulful impulses.

My images are straightforward yet are imbued (for me) with symbolism, tangled up with all sorts of influences, memories, sounds, layers of experiences, hidden things. I’ll think I know what path I’m on, and something else happens, taking me to another place.

That act of painting, getting lost and getting found (and getting lost again), is compelling and addictive.
