Anywhere but here” is an ongoing series that dives into a subconscious coping strategy of escapism. Ever since I can I remember as a child immersed in a deeply unhealthy environment I was not yet fully cognitive of, something stirring within told me I needed to get away. Even if it was only feasible in my imagination. Home was a place to be dreaded and my mind was in need of a sanctuary. I found just that by soaking up the last moments in the classroom exploring photography books. It was there, I discovered enchanting images of far away places, landscapes that were totally foreign to me, old forgotten cars and buildings that were nothing like the ones I saw in my own small, mid Atlantic world. I wanted to be there..in each image, simply because it was somewhere else. My mind buzzed with thoughts of wandering, exploring and taking in these unknown but seemingly discreet places. The vast landscapes void of people especially drew me in, they appeared to be peaceful and void of conflict. Now, as an adult I seek out these places. I find peace in desolation and comfort in the quietly abandoned. It’s in these folds and unsuspecting corners of a place where my mind and imagination continue to find inspiration and refuge.
